The regular verbenjoymeans ‘get pleasure from something’. It usually has an object:
Weenjoyedthe movie so much.
Enjoyyour holiday in Ireland.
Not:Enjoy in Ireland.
We also useenjoyto talk about getting pleasure from a situation we are in. In this case, we sayenjoy myself, yourself, herself, himself, etc.:
Did youenjoyyourself last night?
We alwaysenjoyourselves when we go to Lynn’s house.
We use the -ingform afterenjoybut we don’t use ato-infinitive:
I neverenjoyedcycling.
Not:I never enjoyed to cycle.
Theyenjoyedmeeting people on their trip around Italy.
Not:They enjoyed to meet people on their trip…
In informal situations, enjoyis sometimes used on its own without an object. This is especially common in American English:
A:We’re now going out for dinner.
B:Enjoy!
